Biography
Dr. Book received her batchelors degree in Biology from The Johns Hopkins University and her MD at Duke University Medical School. She completed her training in Adult Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center and a Fellowship in Anxiety Disorders at Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). There she developed in interest in treating people with psychiatric disorders comorbid with addictions and she went on to an additional certification in Addiction Medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and a Masters of Science in Clinical Research at MUSC. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC, where she has an active clinical practice, teaches medical students, psychiatric residents, and addiction psychiatry fellows, and does NIAAA funded research in the treatment of alcoholism with co-occurring psychiatric disorders, in particular social anxiety disorder.
She and her husband, Michael, have three children: George, Sam and Anna as well as Apollo the dog and Jupiter the cat.
